History & significance
The deity self-manifested on Govardhan Hill in Braj and was brought to Mewar in the 17th century to protect it; the cart's wheel sank at Nathdwara, taken as the Lord's choice of home.
Worship follows the Pushtimarg tradition of Vallabhacharya, treating Shrinathji as a living child — bathed, dressed, fed and put to rest each day.
Pichwai cloth paintings were created to form the backdrop behind the deity and are now a celebrated art form.
