History & significance
One of the 108 Divya Desams praised by the Alvar saints, the temple honours Krishna's embassy to Hastinapura before the Kurukshetra war.
The main deity is a striking seated form nearly 25 feet tall, shown in the posture of the peace envoy.
The Pallavas built the original shrine; Chola and Vijayanagara rulers added the halls and gopuram.
