History & significance
The image was carved, tradition says, under the guidance of Vajranabha to resemble Krishna's own face, and was enshrined in Vrindavan by Rupa Goswami.
Sawai Jai Singh II brought the deity to Jaipur in the 18th century and installed it in the City Palace garden pavilion, ruling the city as its regent on Govind's behalf.
Seven aartis are performed daily and are attended by enormous crowds, especially during Janmashtami.
