History & significance
Vasudeva crossed the flooded Yamuna with the newborn Krishna and left him in Nanda's home at Gokul.
Mahavan's Chaurasi Khamba temple, with its 84 pillars, is said to stand on the site of Nanda's house.
The famous scenes of butter-stealing, the mortar and rope, and Yashoda seeing the universe in Krishna's mouth all belong here.
